  Midweek Movie Madness for Munchkins: The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: Veggie Tales Movie

Three lazy misfits - very timid Elliot (Larry the Cucumber), lazy Sedgewick (Mr. Lunt) and no self-confident George (Pa Grape) - dream of the day of putting on a show about pirates. With their own problems of might not having this dream come true, they soon find themselves traveling back in time into the 17th century and begin a quest to rescue a royal family from an evil tyrant, and learn about being pirates.

  Bird's Eye Parade View

The City of Marietta's Marietta Freedom Parade will begin at 10 AM at Roswell Street Baptist Church and head towards the Square from Roswell Rd, turning onto Cherokee Street next to The Strand.

Only 100 people will enjoy a "view above the rest" from The Strand's roof top terrace from 9 AM to 12 PM.

Tickets $5 per person. Cash bar includes juice, coffee, Bloody Marys, Mimosas, and morning drinks. Limited seating available on a first come, first serve basis.

Front Row Fireworks. Enjoy a memorable Fourth at the renovated Strand Theatre this year!
Watch the "Let Freedom Ring" live variety show on stage, enjoy a BBQ dinner and jazz in one of the private event rooms, and a be one of a few with a "front row" view of the dazzling fireworks from the top level Cobb Terrace.
Tables of eight $500 or $75 for individual tickets. Ticket includes BBQ dinner by Dave Poe's BBQ, two alcoholic beverages, jazzy entertainment, and access to The Strand's roof top terrace. Admission limited to 100.

In mid-July, the Earl Smith Strand Theatre will present its first student produced production: Bernard Pomerance's The Elephant Man.

The Elephant Man is based on the life of Joseph Merrick, a man who lived in London during the Victorian era and was known for his severe physical deformities. The play traces Merrick's emotional struggles through his experiences as a circus sideshow attraction and his attempts to overcome his horrific appearance with the help of Dr. Frederick Treves.

  Christmas In July Movie: Home Alone

To coincide with Marietta's Christmas in July Celebration, the Earl Smith Strand Theatre will be showing the holiday movie favorite: Home Alone.


After a fight with his older brother, Buzz, over pizza, Kevin McCallister (Culkin) gets sent to the attic bedroom, where he wishes that his family would simply disappear. A power line failure during the night resets all the alarm clocks, and the rest of the family rushes the following morning to leave to go on a Christmas vacation to Paris, France. During the confusion, Kevin is accidentally left at home by himself and experiences what it is like to be independent for the first time. At the same time two intruders, Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), plan to break-into the (almost) vacant home.

Field of Dreams is a 1989 American fantasy/drama film, directed and adapted by Phil Alden Robinson from the novel Shoeless Joe by W. P. Kinsella. The movie stars Kevin Costner, Amy Madigan, Gaby Hoffmann, Ray Liotta, Timothy Busfield, James Earl Jones, Frank Whaley, and Burt Lancaster in his last film appearance.

Field of Dreams was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Music, Original Score, Best Picture and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium.
