United Way in Cobb County’s S-P-E-L-L C-H-E-C-K
United Way in Cobb County presents S-P-E-L-L C-H-E-C-K, an adult-only spelling bee! This evening of friendly spelling competition will kickoff April as Month of the Young Child and will celebrate the power of literacy. On Thursday, April 1, “bee” teams will compete for the soon-to-be coveted S-P-E-L-L C-H-E-C-K title. Proceeds from S-P-E-L-L C-H-E-C-K will go towards special initiative education projects in Cobb County! If you know your ABC’s and want to register a team, contact Lauren Cox (lcox@unitedwayatlanta.org). Deadline to register a team is Friday, March 19. Her medium of choice is oil on canvas. |

Friday, April 9th, 7pm : Savannah College of Art and Design’s Atlanta Animation department presents a collection of their animated works. The animated shorts will feature the world premier of “Jaguar McGuire (and his cat)”, a 4 minute short film that will have you roaring with laughter. The screening will be followed by Q&A with the film makers. $8 General Public, $5 Students, $2 SCAD students (with valid ID). Note: Screening is not rated, some animated material may not be suitable for children below the age of 14.

Dare the warm weather to show its beautiful face again at the highly energetic, outrageously fun Jimmy Buffet Tribute Show at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre in Mariettaville! Patrons are encouraged to get in the island spirit and don your beach duds, even if you have to wear a sweater underneath: the more cheesy-beach-resort your look is, the better! The Strand will have frozen margaritas to quench your thirst and you’ll love the warm-weather-inspired silent auction benefitting The Strand. Show is at 8 PM. Doors, silent auction, and bars open at 7 PM. Organ pre-show cancelled. Tickets $10 in advance and $12 at the door. 21+ ID required for entry.

MORE ABOUT THE SHOW Since 1992 A1A has been internationally recognized as the Official and Original Jimmy Buffett Tribute Show and the only band sanctioned by Jimmy Buffett himself. A1A brings to life a highly energetic, colorful, family friendly concert experience that brings in the fresh ocean breezes of tropical flavor that is akin to being at Jimmy’s show. Jeff Pike, singer and originator of A1A, has appeared in the video “Fruitcakes” and shared the stage with Mr. Buffett, as well as performed with Coral Reefers (Jimmy’s band) Nadirah Shakoor, Greg “Fingers” Taylor, Amy Lee, Peter Mayer, Michael Utley and Robert Greenidge.
